Overview:

KU's English department puts the "humanity" in the humanities. Our Department of English emphasizes the "human" through our Individual, one-on-one interactions with you and your classmates; our emphasis on community and global engagement; and our abiding interest in our shared humanity through the stories of others. We encourage you to grapple with the complexity of a culturally and commercially interconnected world and the global networks and processes of cultural exchange.

As an English major, you'll learn to write clearly, effectively and creatively. Your mind will be challenged and your imagination engaged. You'll immerse yourself in understanding how words and ideas shape the world. But perhaps most importantly, you'll discover something far more valuable in the process- yourself.

Choose from one of the three tracks to narrow your focus:

1) Literary Studies

2) Creative Writing

3) Rhetoric, Language and Writing

A BA/BGS degree program in Literature, Language and Writing is also available at the KU Edwards campus.

Career options:

For an English major, some obvious career choices might include writing, editing or reporting, but did you know that you can also work in t he legal, medical government or education fields? For more details, visit the KU Career Center website.
