Slavic Languages & Literatures



KU's Department of Slavic Languages & Literatures is the only program in the state to offer bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in Slavic Languages and Literatures. We offer courses in:

  • Russian
  • Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian
  • Polish
  • Czech
  • Turkish
  • Yiddish

Although the department is small, Slavic faculty at KU are published widely in the U.S. and abroad, representing an outstanding concentration of expertise. 

The department is also affiliated with the Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies (CREES).

Career options: 

Many Slavic graduates interpret for immigrants in Kansas City, and some trek across Missouri to assist the 50,000 Bosnian refugees in St. Louis. Others go on to work in the government, law or education.
