Overview: 

The Department of Visual Art at KU functions as a creative laboratory where you will be mentored by a faculty of internationally recognized artists and explore a broad range of media and disciplines. You will be encouraged in the development of a unique artistic voice through critical inquiry and research.

The 130,000 square foot Art & Design Building provides ample space for the excellent facilities necessary for scholars/artists to gain the technical skills for visual art careers.

Visual Art majors study a variety of artistic areas such as:

Ceramics
Drawing/Painting
Expanded Media
Metalsmithing/Jewelry
Printmaking
Sculpture
Textiles/Fabrics
Visual Art Education
History of Art

Career options: 

As a Visual Arts graduate you will likely choose to pursue a career connected to your artistic focus area. However, some graduates will look for broader careers as curators, gallery directors, designers of various types, museum guide, etc. With the artistic and entrepreneurship skills you will gain from KU's Visual Art department - you can do anything!
